Summary
- Proofbox is a free-standing, offline tool for keeping receipts and counting down return and warranty dates. It is provided by MODERN TECHNOLOGY IT LLC.
- The dates it shows are arithmetic on numbers you enter. Knowing the real return window or warranty term of a purchase, and acting before it ends, remains your responsibility.
- Your receipts and records are yours. We never see them. Back them up with Export; we cannot recover anything for you.
- Use the app lawfully and do not try to break it or pass it off as your own. Some components are open source under their own licenses.
- We provide the app “as is” to the extent the law allows, but nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law.
1. Acceptance
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and MODERN TECHNOLOGY IT LLC (“we”, “us”) about the Proofbox Android application (the “App”). By installing or using the App you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App. Our Privacy Policy explains how the App handles data and forms part of these Terms.
2. What Proofbox is
The App lets you record purchases on your device: an optional receipt photo, item name, store, price, purchase date, a return window in days and a warranty length in months. From the purchase date and the numbers you enter it computes a “return by” date and a “warranty until” date, shows them as stamps and on a timeline, and can show local notifications before those dates. It also lets you search, export and import your records and delete them. The App works entirely offline and has no online component, account or server.
3. What it is not
- Not legal, financial or consumer advice. The App does not know the return policy of any store, the statutory warranty rules of any country or the terms of any manufacturer's guarantee. It only counts the days and months you type in. Check your receipt, the seller's policy and the law that applies to you.
- Not a guarantee that a reminder will arrive. Reminders are produced by a daily background check that depends on Android, your device's battery settings and your notification permission. Android may delay or skip background work. Treat reminders as a convenience, not as a deadline service.
- Not a replacement for the original receipt. Some sellers, insurers or authorities require the original paper or electronic receipt. A photo in the App may not be accepted. Keep originals where they matter.
- Not a currency or tax tool. Prices are stored as you enter them with a currency label from your phone's locale; there is no conversion, no totals for accounting and no tax calculation.
4. Your data and your responsibility
Everything you store in the App stays on your device. We have no copy and cannot restore it. You are responsible for backing up your data, for example with Settings → Backup → Export or Android's device backup, and for keeping export files secure. If you delete data, lose or reset your device or uninstall the App, the data is gone unless you have a backup. You are also responsible for entering correct dates and periods; the App cannot detect a wrong purchase date or return window.
5. Acceptable use
You may use the App for your personal or internal business record-keeping. You must not:
- use the App for anything unlawful, including storing images you have no right to hold;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the App except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits this despite this clause (for example to achieve interoperability under EU law);
- remove or alter our notices, names or marks, or distribute modified copies of the App as your own;
- attempt to bypass the technical limits of the App or of Google Play.
6. Intellectual property
The App, its design, illustrations, text and the Proofbox name and logo are owned by us or our licensors and protected by copyright and trademark law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on Android devices you own or control, in accordance with these Terms and the Google Play terms. Your records, notes and photos remain yours; we claim no rights in them and, since they never leave your device, we never receive them.
7. Open-source licenses
The App is built with open-source components, in particular Android Jetpack (AndroidX) libraries such as Room, WorkManager, DataStore and Compose, and the Kotlin standard library and kotlinx.serialization, which are licensed under the Apache License 2.0. The fonts Fraunces and Source Sans 3 are used under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The list of components and their license texts is available in the App under Settings → About → Open source licenses. Those licenses apply to those components and are not changed by these Terms.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
The App is provided free of charge and “as is”. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we make no promises that the App will be error-free, uninterrupted, compatible with every device or suitable for a particular purpose, or that reminders will be delivered on time. Section 10 applies.
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including a missed return window, an expired warranty, a lost refund or the loss of data stored in the App. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for intent or gross negligence, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you.
10. Your rights as a consumer
If you use the App as a consumer, you have rights under the mandatory consumer-protection law of the country where you live, including, in the European Union, rights relating to the conformity of digital content. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law. Where a clause of these Terms conflicts with such a right, the right prevails.
11. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it; this deletes the App's data from your device (see Delete your data). We may terminate this licence if you materially breach these Terms. We may also stop distributing or updating the App; because the App works offline, a copy already installed will keep working as it is. Sections 6 to 10 and 13 survive termination.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms when the App changes or when the law requires. The current version, with its version number and effective date, is always at https://proofbox.kubeharbor.space/terms and linked from the App's About screen. For material changes we will point this out in the update notes of the version that introduces them. If you do not agree with a change, stop using the App.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the law of the publisher's country of registration, and disputes are subject to the courts of Ukraine. If you are a consumer living in the European Union or another country whose law protects you, you also benefit from the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence and may bring proceedings before the courts of that country. The European Commission provides an online dispute-resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr; we are not obliged and do not undertake to participate in dispute resolution before a consumer arbitration body, but we are happy to resolve any issue directly by e-mail.
